About

About Setouchi Journal

Setouchi Journal is an independent English-language journal about the islands of Japan's Seto Inland Sea: their history, their art and the people who keep island life going.

We write for curious, unhurried travellers who would rather understand a place than tick it off. Every story is reported by our editor, who lives in the Setouchi region.

How we work

  • Dated facts. Each story has a fact box with the date its practical details were last verified, and a list of sources.
  • First-hand notes. The "Local note" in each story is written by the editor from personal experience.
  • Licensed images only. Every photograph is either our own or used with documented permission, and is credited beneath the image. See our copyright policy.
  • Clear about money. Some stories contain affiliate links, always labelled. See our affiliate disclosure.
